Scorpio – Living the Mystery

Moonlight beams down

Softening hard edges

And clean lines

Mystery rules the night

The sky

Alive

With its own brand of light

Offers solace

In which to release

The harsher realities of the day

Gazing out over the ocean

The full moon

A jewel among the stars

Invites reflection

Offers comfort

At a time when I feel so alone

Why am I here?

I ask

Why is this so hard?

What happened

To all those dreams

That once drew me forth?

Like art

On an enchanted canvas

Stars twinkle in reply

I see my questions

Are small matters

In the big scheme of things

The answers lie

In this moment

In witnessing the magnificence

In holding this holy moment

Communion with the sky

In not only eyes and mind

But Heart and Soul

Life is a mystery

Living the mystery

With open Heart and Mind

Offers magic

Unseen

When we think

We already know

Mercury Rx – The Trickster Sheds New Light on Old Illusions

Labyrinth - Eau Claire, Wisconsin - 2004 Jodi Lilly

Mercury went retrograde, for the third time this year, on Saturday, October 4th. This means that between now and October 26th, we will do well to approach our lives in terms of re’s. You can open the dictionary to the page where you first find a word beginning with the letters r-e, and find good instruction for how to best navigate this time. Reap, reconsider, reconstruct, recreate, redeem, redefine, redistribute, refinance, refine, regenerate, and so on.

What you don’t hear as much about is the fact that this is a beautiful time for reconnecting with people, places and things that once seemed lost to us. Memories resurface; old friends reappear; long-forgotten journal entries are read through new eyes that reveal deeper insight into the real meaning beneath the thoughts that made their way to the page, so long ago. Time also takes on a different quality. Nothing is as straight-forward as it once seemed. We begin to realize that time is not linear, at all. Rather it circles and cycles around and through us. We never do something once, we act it out with different people, in different situations, at different ages, until we know the subject matter of our lives inside and out.

If we play our proverbial cards right, Mercury’s retrograde phase can be a magical and enchanting time of seeing behind the curtain, to what the wizard that is our subconscious has really been up to. If we are willing to look we can see far beyond what things appeared to be, at first glance, on our rush through these busy, hustle bustle days that make up our lives. In order to see clearly, we must step back, shift our perspective and open not only our eyes, but our mind. This is how insights come. This is how we become wiser. This is how we evolve, moving from merely going through the motions of surviving to stepping into a place of mastery; in which we can thrive.

The spiritual path is not about gaining and obtaining. It is about releasing and relinquishing those things we once used to define us. Becoming spiritually enlightened requires letting go of who we thought we were so we can be more of who we really are.

Mercury’s Retro Phase ~Recognize, Release and Reclaim

Mercury 2_mdis_global_enhancedcolor_caloris_orth_hd

This picture is a color-enhanced shot of Mercury. Isn’t it gorgeous! Mercury is poised to go into its second of three retrograde phases for the year. This time, from June 7 to July 1. Every cycle is good for something, and my Gemini, writer self, likes to think about Mercury Retrograde as the ideal time for editing  one’s life.

Anyone who’s done any creative undertaking, knows there is a time for getting all of the ideas on the page (or canvas). Once we’ve done that, it’s time  to step back and see what works and what doesn’t. Which elements are perfect for that project or piece and what doesn’t fit. Often, the parts that seemed like our most brilliant thinking while in creative flow don’t add anything to the finished product. Instead, as more of the picture has unfolded, they may take us off course.

Life is like that, too. We go full steam ahead picking up something here and something else over there. As perfect as these people, places and things may be, at the time, few of them will make the cut for the long haul. Most will break down or break apart or break our heart, sooner or later. Sometimes this happens so subtly we hardly notice until we stop and take stock.

That’s why Mercury’s retrograde cycle really can be a godsend. If we learn to use those three weeks appropriately, it can serves us in getting current and eliminating a lot of undue stress. Here are some practical ways to engage this energy:

Recognize  It is human nature to become oblivious to what is in our environment. After a while, anything that’s there starts to look normal and we stop noticing it. If you take a conscious look around your home (imagining seeing my home through the eyes of a guest who is visiting for the first time, usually puts me on full alert and noticing all kinds of things I would otherwise overlook) and make note of the unfinished projects; broken objects; ill-fitting, unflattering, stained, or otherwise damaged clothing that you haven’t been wearing, with fresh eyes, you’ll start to see a theme called ‘things that I didn’t feel like dealing with’.  Also known as energy drains. We’ve all got them.

Or maybe you are pretty good about staying organized and up to date with the physical stuff but your cyber stuff is choking off your creative flow. It could be an overflowing inbox; email from subscriptions to sources that are no longer of interest; documents that need to be organized in files; and then there are all those digital pictures that languish on the computer, unchecked, rather than being printed, forwarded, posted and organized into albums.

Or your ‘clutter’ may be of the emotional variety. People that drain your energy with their incessant drama, too much exposure to media negativity or situations that you can’t resolve, no matter what you do.

Release  Let it go! The world and the way we live in it, is changing at an unprecedented rate. As it turns out, the object of life is not about being the one who collects the most stuff. It is about letting go of everything we thought we were supposed to be and coming back to the purity of who we are; spiritual beings, living physical lives.

Reclaim  Now decide which of these things are worth the time it will take to finish, fix or free up closet space or room on your hard drive. If you start with the things you know just ‘aren’t you’ anymore and clear those out of your space, you’ll be amazed at what a relief that alone can be, to the psyche. Any unfinished business is held, not only in our homes or computers, but in our minds, as well. Reclaim your space and sanity by releasing the things of the past that hold no value in your life today.

If you need more insight into what’s good about Mercury Retrograde, here are a few words to inspire your journey.

Relinquish, restore, reconsider, review, realign, recapitulate, re-establish, renew, revise, recreation, rewrite, render, rest, reunite, restitution, relish, recreate,  relax, and revisit.

Remember, rest reaps real recreation. 🙂

I’d love to hear from you as we progress through this cycle and apply some of these tools. Also, if you receive any insights on how this Mercury Retrograde is working for you. It works, if you work it.

Love, Jodi

Pisces ~Letting Go and Finding Flow

In-Depth Hoop Retreat Sunrise Meditation by Cadencia Photography

In-Depth Hoop Retreat Sunrise Meditation by Cadencia Photography

The Sun entered Pisces a few days ago. The symbol for Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions. This is the sign of the ocean, high creativity, imagination, spirituality and dreams. Things are morphy in the territory Pisces oversees. This is the last sign of the astrological year and the final month of winter, when old forms are ‘laid to rest’ so something new can be born with the spring. As we open our hearts and let go of what has been, our bodies recycle the rich, ripe compost of past experiences and transform our lives.

This picture was taken by Cadence of Cadencia Photography on the final morning of the hoop dance retreat I attended in Hawaii, in January. Twenty-seven women had just spent a week hooping, doing yoga, sharing meals, most of us sleeping under the same roof, and finally, doing a guided sunrise meditation on the last morning. We had shared so much it was hard to imagine this life-changing retreat ending. I watched the sun come into view, then closed my eyes and took a deep breath of ocean-fueled air. As I let it out salty tears began to flow. Waves of gratitude, joy, love and great sadness that it was over rose and fell. I looked around to see that I was not the only one.

And then I heard the voice in my head answering my unspoken protest. “Only through letting go can you know what this time was really about and reap the bounty of benefits it has seeded in your experience. To hold on is to lose all of that.” This retreat felt magical because the people, activities and elements came together and interacted in a dynamic dance. Everyone has had those times of heightened energy and joyful interaction that inevitably come to an end. If we can shift gears, afterward and allow ourselves a period of rest and recovery the process of integration will take place.

In this past month since the retreat ended I craved sleep, spent time in quiet contemplation and shied away from too much activity that would take me out of myself. During this time, I recovered precious pieces of myself that I had long ago abandoned. The retreat sparked an unexpected awakening and re-membering of my life.

Tomorrow is the Pisces New Moon. Time for fresh starts and new creative projects. Just don’t be surprised if things change as you go along. Pisces is all about dancing with the Divine and going with the flow. Where it will take you, nobody knows. As the old song says, ‘The best things happen when you’re dancing…’ Enjoy!

With an ocean of Love,
Jodi

Aloha, Light In Motion

IMG_6521I lived in Hawaii for a while, over a decade ago. In fact, Light In Motion was conceived and launched in the summer of 2001, within a month of moving to Oahu. So much has happened in the time in-between that it is hard to recall the arc of this journey and the people who made it possible. In January, I went to the islands for a Hoop Dance Retreat and the spirit of aloha that had once been a part of my daily life re-emerged and appeared all around me. Suddenly, every stranger at the retreat was greeting me with, “Aloha!” Not only that, the people I was with seemed to recognize something about me that I’d forgotten about myself. They could see I had something for them and trusted me to deliver it, even though we’d just met.

A few years ago, after years of doing readings and intuitive sessions for clients; teaching classes in meditation and developing intuition; and holding monthly gatherings for the women in my community, I hit a wall. My energy and enthusiasm began to wane. I felt overwhelmed, discouraged and when business began falling off, I lost all interest. Truth is I needed a big time out. I had lost track of my vision and sense of purpose. And yet, I’d worked so hard, spent decades of my life reading the books and taking the classes, being mentored by a couple of amazing women and building a client base, that I was terrified of letting it go. Much of my identity was tied to Light In Motion and I was afraid of disappointing people. I stood at cross purposes with myself for years, really, before I finally, finally admitted I just couldn’t do it anymore.

After a while, I took a job-job, working in an office forty hours a week and did a customary Bay Area commute. And it was hard. Much harder than I’d imagined it would be. It made me long for the days when I ran my own show, as it were. It helped me to see things differently. And I grew as a person in ways I hadn’t been forced to able to, earlier in my working life.

When the project I was hired for wound down, I was laid off and had no idea what was next. I traveled, spent a lot of time at home, alone in deep reflection about how to move forward and laid low for months. During that fallow period, my interest was sparked by a  six-week online/teleconference program called Waking the Wild Woman. As I attended the weekly calls and connected with other women who shared my interest in the revitalizing the Divine Feminine, on the Facebook group, a part of my psyche that had lain dormant for years was, indeed, reawakened. The course helped me begin to see myself with new eyes. It started to dawn on me that all those years spent wandering through the desert, feeling my way through the darkest of nights were the only way my body had of integrating what I’d spent decades collecting, learning, teaching and finally releasing.

Integration doesn’t happen when we are actively engaged with something. It only happens when we let go. As long as we cling, much of the magic and mystery inherent in that thing will elude us. It is only when we set it free and give it time that we can know what it means, and whether it belongs to us.

Aloha, in simple terms means hello, good-bye and I Love You. Light In Motion was reawakened with the breath of Aloha on the Big Island of Hawaii. Seems only fitting to experience such a full circle moment at a hoop retreat, in the islands my heart has long called home.

So, in the weeks to come, while *Mercury is retrograde, Light In Motion will undergo a review, reconsideration and repackaging of its offerings and re-emerge refreshed (maybe even be renamed) and ready to get busy.  I look forward to reconnecting with former clients and meeting many new people along the way . Aloha!

Love, Jodi

*This cycle of Mercury’s retrograde phase goes from February 6-February 28, 2014

Venus Has Gone Retrograde and the Moon is on the Wane

Gemini Full Moon

Gemini Full Moon

2013 has been a year of tremendous change, the world over. Sometimes it is hard to grasp how quickly things can flip or completely transform. Much has come to light that was held in secrecy for decades. At the same time, amazing new information, technologies and developments have been revealed that offer tremendous promise, reminding us that we are moving through a time like no other. The more we can reconnect to our hearts and follow the guidance they offer, the more easily we will navigate these times.

The last full moon of 2013 lit up the night sky in the sign of Gemini on December 17th. At the Solstice, on December 21/2, Venus entered its retrograde phase, to travel backward in the sign of Capricorn for the entire month of January. Astrology allows us to see the natural cycles of life and their timing: conception, becoming, flowering, peaking, distributing, diminishing, dissolving and renewal. This waning of the moon and retrograde Venus both indicate that between now and the end of the year is prime time for considering what has value (Venus) in your life today, and consciously releasing anything that no longer fits or works for you. Whether there is an old habit you’ve been meaning to change, a relationship you’ve outgrown or a closet full of clothes that you just don’t wear anymore, the stars are aligned to support you in letting go so you can once more be wholeheartedly in the flow of your life.

Freedom, the freedom to be who we really are, comes only when we have let go of all the stuff that we are not. Many of us once gladly laid claim to labels and titles and identities and stuff and nonsense, believing they made us somehow more than we were without them. Today, we want to use our creativity and intelligence and do something that not only makes our hearts sing, but makes a real difference in the world.

Waking up to the fact that nothing outside ourselves can give us any value that we don’t already possess within us can be a challenge. Continuing to do things that we know are no longer right for us, however, can feel like death. So, if you’ve been feeling the urge to let some things go, there’s never been a better time than now. In lightening up now, you create a vacuum that allows you to attract something new that feels just right.

Wishing you all a peaceful late December and beautiful visions for a shiny New Year.

Love, Jodi

A New Day Is Dawning

Though I have never been sure what ‘crystal blue persuasion’ means I’ve loved this song since the first time I heard it in 1969. It still holds up as one of my all-time favorites. In 1969 I was fourteen years old, growing up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, dreaming of living in California, away from the long, bitter-cold winters and the people who really didn’t understand me. By the fall of 1974 I was living in Northern California. It turned out most of the people I’ve met here don’t understand me either, but the sun does shine most of the time… And, over time, I connected with an ever-evolving, core group of people who are kindred spirits; sweet friends with whom I can always converse in the language of consciousness and celebrate life’s magic and mysteries.

Today, January 1st, we arrive at the gateway to this brand new year, the year that holds tremendous promise for birthing a new day for anyone ready to embrace the tranformative waves of change. Astrologically speaking, we have been in a bit of an energetic portal with Mercury turning retrograde in early December in Capricorn, traveling back through the late degrees of Sagittarius and now having resumed forward movement will offer us one more chance to tie up the loose ends we may have missed, finally tell the truth about something we couldn’t admit to until now or correct something that has never felt right. On December 20th/21st we had the Gemini Lunar Eclipse at the very last (known as the critical) degree of Gemini, further amplifying the need and desire to say what is on our minds and in our hearts. January 4th is the first new moon of the year–this one is the Capricorn Solar Eclipse. Capricorn is the sign of manifestation, discipline and giving structure and order to our lives. The energy mounts as we approach an eclipse and only after the fact that we begin to realize what it has all been about. We are starting this year in an energetic atmosphere that is swirling, surging and capable of shaking out anything that is no longer relevant to our lives. Speaking our truth and letting go allows life to flow in ways we could never have seen when we were shut down and holding on.

May 2011 be filled with words that are music to your ears, sights that make your heart sing, people that speak your language and time for enjoying every lovely moment!

Love,
Jodi
