Void, Of Course

My day got off to a weird start today. Nothing went as expected. I went to teach my hoop dance class this morning and no one else showed up. Not one student came. I took this in stride and made the best of it. Some days people are busy. Apparently, today everyone was busy. So I used the studio for my own practice session, reveling in the luxury of all that space and a wall of mirrors. I set up my tripod and video camera and played with some new moves to see how they looked and what I needed to work on. I’ve been teaching hoop dance for just a year now and love it more than I’d ever have guessed possible.

I had a meeting scheduled for lunch time today. I’d even been sent a reminder. When I got there no one was anywhere to be found. Apparently, the meeting was canceled and no one thought to let me know.

I went home. Some days it is better to just let go than to push against something that isn’t happening. All the resistance in the world wouldn’t change things and all that pushing against would just leave me exhausted at the end of the day. Instead, I went out and ran errands. I walked into a salon and asked if there was anyone who had time to do a pedicure. A woman named Tami who came from Viet Nam in 1979 was preparing the foot bath when I got to her chair. She escaped from her country when the communists took over, she told me. She couldn’t live with the communists. She left her family and everyone she knew. That is a bravery I am thankful I have never had to summon. I left the salon feeling uplifted by our exchange, with bright fuchsia toenails, and feeling like a million bucks.

Sometimes the best stuff happens when things don’t go the way we thought they would or should. When we say the moon is ‘void of course’ it means has moved past its relationship with the other planets in the solar system and it is hard to guess what might happen. Sometimes we get into an orbit that is out of sync with others in our world and things don’t go according to plan. If we open our hearts and let go of our plans, real magic can happen.

The moon was not void of course today, but I was, and some pretty cool things happened as a result. Rather than ending the day feeling that I can’t win–which is the way I’d have felt not too long ago–I’m ending my day with great appreciation for all of the miraculous things that happened expressly because things didn’t go the way I thought they would.

Life is good. Have you noticed?

Today I Open

Today I open to possibilities
And entertain the ones that shine

Today I willingly speak my truth
And release the dreams that aren’t mine

Today I trust my instincts
And follow the inner signs

Today I open my heart and mind
And revel in a breath at a time

Today I dare to love what I love
And leave the rest behind

Eclipses, Emotions and Sacred G

tranceNdance
I have spoken to so many people over the past week who are feeling upset about one thing or another. These are people who are normally pretty rational, together types who are finding themselves whipped into a dramatic frenzy about something that has either felt like a personal affront, or completely baffled them. I was surprised to find myself in this group, last week, too. Though I have weathered many of these emotional storms, it takes a while before I realize that my big reaction has little or nothing to do with the situation that has triggered those feelings.

As I wrote in my previous post, we just completed a series of three eclipses between July 7 and August 5. Eclipses work like magic to unearth old emotional patterns that have been held for years or even decades in the subconscious. Unawareness of these emotionally-charged patterns doesn’t mean they haven’t had an affect on one’s experiences. In fact, these unconscious patterns form the basis upon which many, if not all, of our beliefs about ‘the way life is’ were created. That which we experience is what we know as true for us. It is what we lived, after all. Over time this ‘truth’ has been reinforced so often that most of us come to feel we are helpless to change it. Even when we want to. Even when we see that others don’t have these same issues. We don’t understand how they are being created since the origins of these patterns are stowed away somewhere that the brain cannot consciously access. At the time the original event occurred we did not have the capacity to deal with the it. Our systems are designed to protect us from being aware of things we cannot yet handle. So now, even though we are older, wiser and much more experienced, until we can process the memory and release the emotional charge that has kept the pattern active, we will continue to see it in our current reality.

The key to changing this lies in our willingness to explore an issue that comes up and feels all too familiar. We are often aware that this isn’t the first time we have felt this way; though we are hard pressed to understand why it is happening, yet again. Unprocessed memory holds the pattern active in our energy field until we can finally see it for what it is and discharge the emotion from long ago.

Eclipses touch off sensitive areas in our lives, activating them to give us an opportunity to process the experience and integrate the energy that was previously stuck and replaying the same verse, like a broken record. Liberating yourself from that old story that is not the truth of who you are is the reward. By taking a little time to be with the way you are feeling and recall other times when you felt this way, you begin to free the energy that has bound up a portion of your life-force until you were ready to know more of the truth of who you are.

The best thing I have found to free up more vitality by clearing these old memories and their emotional charge is Sacred G. I have been using Sacred G since March 2009 and highly recommend it. My life has changed in remarkable ways since then, simply and easily. Check it out at CoryHerter.com. Cory is a remarkable person who has been through a profound healing journey. He has used what he has learned to create Sacred G. The benefits are too numerous to recount here. He has posted lots of videos in which he explains in great detail, how Sacred G works and what you can expect to experience. He is currently making Sacred G available as a file you can download so you can experience for yourself what it can do for you.

Rx For Living Well

Time, energy, attention and money. These are the precious personal resources of our lives. Too often, I find mine have disappeared without me even noticing until they are gone.

I feel that the process of getting to know and accept oneself wholeheartedly is essential to understanding one’s values and value as an individual. We have all been exposed to the conditioning that says, “No one will ever love you if you are honest” and “It is selfish/wrong to think highly of yourself” and “Sensitivity is a weakness” and the unspoken but pervasive idea “Love is something that you have to earn”. Only by being honest with yourself is it possible to know what is true of you.

Here is what I have learned. The art of living well is based in having cultivated a loving relationship with oneself. This means learning to trust your heart and body and questioning the knee-jerk judgments of your mind and other people. It means coming out of auto-pilot-living and noticing the things that spark your energy and enthusiasm, lift your spirits, feel expansive and draw you forward. It means knowing what matters to you and investing your personal resources in ways that support your life and your values.

It all comes down to this: Roses don’t last forever. Smell them while they bloom. Life is precious. Spend it wisely. Love yourself. Love your life.

Dancing to the Land of Ahs

August 31, 2006~16 ~2
The Sun just finished a busy journey through watery Cancer that included lots of ups and downs, two Cancer New Moons (a rare occurrence) and a couple of eclipses that set off all manner of change. Hard to believe it all happened in just a month. Family, emotions, security, nurturing, care-giving, and business have all been high priorities on the minds of most. And now, the Sun has moved into Leo. Leo is the fiery sign of the heart, ruled by the Sun. It’s time to dry those tears, put those worries aside and celebrate the gifts of life and love.

I have felt a call to dance for decades now. I was never very good at the actual dancing part but have always loved music and in my mind, at least, I knew I could move. Ten years ago I took my first dance class; a salsa class at a community center. I learned a few steps and loved the music but other things took priority and after a few sessions I stopped taking classes.

Since then I have taken a hula, jazz and belly dance. For one reason or another none of those styles or classes felt right to me. I began thinking dance wasn’t really for me, after all. Then someone told me about Nia and how it had changed her life. She said it was more than a dance or exercise class, it had become a way of life for so many women who were looking to embody their Goddess nature and live more joyfully in their bodies.

After looking for a class in the area for two years, I finally attended my first Nia class in May. Katleen, our fabulous teacher, made it easy, even for me, to follow along and before I knew it I was dancing. I wasn’t good, but I was having a great time in a room full of women moving together, led by a teacher I could relate to who so beautifully led us in this dance. We embodied our spirits, felt our connection to the Goddess, danced heaven and earth into our experience and pulsed into the joy of being alive through graceful, powerful movement.

I have been to every class since. Each time it is getting a little easier. Nia has helped me to have a joyful physical experience of stretching beyond my comfort zone, learning to think in new ways, learning to be in ways I’d never before considered. And now I’m dancing to some really fabulous music, twice a week, every week, at 8:00 AM.

Being an astrologer has meant having to step out of my personal experience of life and view it through a lens that is impersonal and detached. So many of the ideas Kathleen introduces in class are things that I have thought and written about and spoken about with others. In class, though, we bring them into the dance so the body can know and express them. Dancing has, even in this short time, helped me to be more grounded in my writing and work and to feel more present, regardless of what I am doing.

Learning to do something physical that you enjoy that stretches you beyond your comfort zone keeps you young, in mind as well as body. It strengthens you so you can more gracefully and effectively face other challenges. Grace is dependent on strength. Flexibility and being light on our feet help you to move with grace through these uncertain times. My spirit has been urging me to dance for years. It wasn’t just dance, as it turns out, it was discovering the ‘just right’ place that I am coming to through Nia, that finally delivered me to the land of ahs.

Let yourself experiment with doing new things you love. When you find the ones that make your spirit sing, you are well on your way. What is that ‘just right’ place for you? As the Sun enters Leo, remember, joy is of the essence. Take the time to play, be creative, take the spotlight if it calls you, honor your passion and lead with your heart. Celebrate being you!

Love Yourself

I listened to a fascinating lecture on Human Design today by it’s founder and messenger, Ra Uru Hu. The major themes and lessons of Human Design is that each of us is unique. This is something I come back to over and over again in my work with clients, doing astrology readings. I show people how they are unique and help them to understand their own genius that only comes through when they embrace their individuality completely. “Love yourself.” Ra says it often. And it bears repeating.

How many of us were taught to love who we are? How many of us were raised by people who were secure enough in themselves and as parents to really encourage us to not only be who we are but to love our self?

Most of the people who come to see me for a session are dealing with some kind of conflict between who it is they think they should be or how they ought to behave and the part of them that just wants to break free of all of those constraints and LIVE, full out as who they are.

I’m not sure how it happened that people are so afraid of love but I see it all the time. Love is the essence of who we are. Fear has replaced love in the minds of so many as being more intelligent and even noble, somehow. Does this seem like a crazy notion to anyone else? Fear is simply the resistance to love. It is a choking off of the life force that creates all kinds of trouble and even disease, for us. Love is your nature. You really can’t not be love, but you do have the free will to make your life miserable by denying it.

Love yourself. It sounds so simple. For most of us, it takes some getting used to and practice. Is it really okay to embrace one’s quirkiness and failings and the crazy things that disturb and delight us? Is it really okay that we don’t care about some of the things that are so important to others? Are we really allowed to forget about the stuff someone else thought we should do and focus on the stuff we prefer?

The question is, if you don’t live your life, who will? If you don’t do what is in your heart to do, who will do it? We each have something of value to offer. All transformation begins from within. If it doesn’t happen within you first, the external changes will be fleeting or ineffective or both.

Love yourself. Start today. It is the most amazing life-changing thing you can do. Once you learn to love you there is a new ease that naturally happens in relationships with others, too.

Love yourself. You were born lovable. When you love yourself, you become Love-able. Loving you is probably the most important, enlightening, life-transforming thing you’ll ever do. The whole world looks different through the eyes of love.

Pluto, Pisces, Aquarius and More Aquarius

04160821Currently, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, the North Node, Chiron and Neptune are all in Aquarius. The Sun is approaching Uranus in Pisces. And Pluto is just getting started in Capricorn. If there were ever a time when extraordinary things were likely, this is it. Over half of the planets of the zodiac are in the signs ruled by the impersonal, anti-grounded signs ruled by the outer planets. True, Capricorn will bring us back to Earth, but Pluto is moving through early Capricorn like a cosmic roto-rooter unearthing all manner of unhealthy government and business practice and procedure. The good news is that Pluto is about transformation. Skeletons and secrets that were buried or kept in vaults or behind boardroom doors are being uncovered and will now be changed in ways that allow for evolution, rather than continuing to poison the ground water from which we all drink.

This ongoing, major line-up of energies in Aquarius, the sign of humanity, invention, technology, revolution, genius and the one who walks to the beat of his/her own drum is opening and offering all manner of fresh opportunity. It may take a while before they become apparent, but rest assured, in this energetic climate, opportunities abound. I like to think of that famously Aquarian drum as the heart. What better beat could there be for keeping pace and passing the time of our lives?

This time is ripe with fresh potentials that were never before possible. If you have been paddling upstream trying to get somewhere you were before, you might want to consider turning your canoe around. We are in the middle of the rapids and there is no going back to where we were even one short year ago.

The evolutionary wheel has turned and the revolution has begun. Things will continue to change. If we choose to make changes based on our vision of what is possible rather than by of our fear of the unknown we will see that we are far from powerless. We are, in fact, powerful beyond measure. What if you let the beauty of what you love be your point of focus?

2009 ~The Year of Miracles

This article was written for my Light In Motion II newsletter, published January 14, 2009 and is cross-posted on my Random Acts of Truth and Beauty blog.

apophysis-090225-1-21A few days ago I was reading something that mentioned 2008 having been the Year of something or other. I wondered what 2009 would be the year of, and immediately heard, “2009 is The Year of Miracles”. Wow! And not a moment too soon, from the sounds of things, lately.

I had to smile at the thought of a year of miracles. I feel the Divine is already right there for us, awaiting our activation of the potentials before us. I see evidence of the miraculous in our election of Barack Obama, in the sudden plummeting of gas prices, and in the shift of energy in the past few weeks that has me feeling a new optimism about what is now possible. These are all potentials that are miraculous in the fact that they were once unexpected and have shifted reality remarkably. Though we may have hoped for them, none of us by force of will or determination could have created them without a little help from the unseen realms.

I don’t know about you, but I take very little for granted these days. When I see something that speaks to me I make a point of stopping to be with it and appreciate it for what it has to offer. Life itself is a series of miracles when I am present to them.

Miracles are really just realized potentials that we are unaware are possible until they occur. They are always love-based, inspiring and uplifting when we witness them. The miraculous is happening all the time. Our true nature is Divine. Humans are born with a natural ability to do many things that we have been taught to believe are miracles. It is just a matter of being present enough to notice, to see the beauty that is literally everywhere we look. More and more people are ready to Be the Change. And there are quite a few of us who are now embracing our lives whole-heartedly with a real Passion for what we are doing. Enough so that we are willing to step up to living and loving as exactly who we are.

If you would like to reconnect with, or discover your Passion, an Intuitive Astrology reading can help. This year promises to be filled with change for everyone. Self-awareness is empowering and allows you to consciously entertain the potentials before you and proactively make choices based on your preferences. The astrology chart offers a helpful guide to your own best timing and is an excellent tool for discovering the most effective strategies for accomplishing your desires. Insights that arise in a reading often reveal potentials and options that were not apparent before we sat down together.

May miracles abound in your New Year.

That’s Just Love Sneaking Up On You…

reaching-outcropped-6.jpg

Have you noticed lately that your fuse is a little shorter than it normally is or that the challenging situations you managed in the past are suddenly unbearable? Lately, what I think of as the ‘universal tension meter’ has been off the charts. Between our exposure to the wild swings on Wall Street and in the mortgage industry, big banks and big business playing a game of corporate Pac-Man, and keeping up with the bizarre antics of this unprecedented U. S. presidential campaign season, attempting to keep a lid on our personal matters can seem overwhelming.

When we finally come to the point at which we just don’t know what to do about something anymore we are as close as we will ever be to resolution. The trick is to wake up enough, mid-crisis, to realize this, so we can remember to let down our defenses and accept whatever it is that feels so overwhelming. As we stop fighting ‘what is’ and take a conscious breath–or as many as it takes–we can finally let the distress wash over and through us and out the other side. Then breathing gets a little easier and shoulders soften and start to drop away from our ears.

When feeling overwhelmed, I have learned to stop and ask myself whether what I am feeling really belongs to me. Often I discover I picked up on a wave of emotion I took in without realizing I had done so because I either wanted to help or felt bad for others. Sometimes I realize I have reverted to an old bad habit of taking on any kind of negative emotion that is around simply because I can feel it. If you have caught yourself doing the same thing, a couple of deep breaths or a brisk walk around the neighborhood works wonders for letting it all go.

Grace enters into any situation in which she is allowed. Perhaps it has been Grace all along. knocking on our door, turning up the heat on the situation, attempting to get our attention, to remind us that we always have a choice. She is always available and only a breath away.

Love and fear cannot coexist in the same space. The moment you stop long enough to let go of your resistance to that which has you on the run and turn to face it, is the moment you awaken, once again, to the fact that love is the truth of who and what you are. Love always leads us home to the center of Who We Really Are. When we come back into alignment with our essence it is easy to see that all the fearful goings-on that ever plague us are just part of this sacred, often crazy, game of Life we are playing.

There is no getting around or away from Love. There is just forgetting and remembering, giving and receiving, breathing in and breathing out.

Ahhh, that feels much better.

Thoughts on Libra

Libra is commonly known as the sign of intimate relationships, beauty and the law. In the Libra realm we engage with others one-on-one, and in so doing experience more of who we are through the eyes and heart of another. Our close relationships with others can be an enlightening reflection of the true nature of our oftentimes complex relationship to Self. Libran relationships are either intimate or legal partnerships. Either way, we have chosen to align with these people for some purpose, be it counseling, marriage, help with negotiating a contract or a business partnership.

If we have done the work of the previous sign, Virgo, the nature of which is to assimilate, integrate and practice discernment, success and harmony in relationships is likely. One of the functions of healthy Virgo is to integrate the otherwise projected, normally unconscious and disowned wild-card aspects of our personality that make each of us unique, so that when we interact with others we are coming from our wholeness and holiness that honors the nature of others.

Currently, Mercury is retrograde in Libra, so it is altogether possible that you are rethinking some of your relationships, contracts and maybe even your marriage. I don’t know about you, but I have been in a bit of a life review for the past few days. I am seeing all kinds of things that were never clear to me before. Insights are dawning like fireworks on the Fourth of July on all kinds of Libra fronts; I am looking at revamping the counseling/consulting practice that has been my Light In Motion business for the past seven years, relationships from the distant past have resurfaced for review and reconsideration, my new business partner and I are realizing we need to slow down and make sure we have all of the pieces of our business in place before we move forward, and I am seeing my relationship with my guy in a whole new light.

Life seems to be moving at warp-speed these days and time is precious. It is of great value to stop and check in with how our relationships to others are reflecting our relationship to who we are at this point in time. Balance and beauty are ideals that remind us of our divine nature, the Who We Really Are, the I AM which is, indeed, balanced and beautiful.
