Bye-Bye, Business As Usual

Pluto and the Capricorn Eclipse

Change is an everyday part of life. Those who refuse to change eventually discover that the world is not the same no matter how they try to make it so.

Embracing change and choosing those changes you prefer gives you a say in how things will be, going forward.

Pluto, the evolutionary planet of transformation, investment, banking, covert deals and hidden agendas, is moving very slowly through Capricorn, (business, government, professionals and authority figures of all kinds). Capricorn natives generally prefer to own only the best and highest quality that money can buy and are often willing to go without until they can afford to have what they want. The world is transforming its relationship to all the things and people born under Capricorn’s rule, purging out the toxic residue of what has been “business as usual” and creating fresh potentials for regeneration and evolution.

On July 7th, there was a Lunar eclipse in Capricorn, which acts as a cosmic power-booster in a sign. Unexpected events are likely for those who are Capricorn, Cancer. Aries or Libra in the weeks and months to come. Shocking news headlines are likely to continue. Who needs movies when life is serving up drama like this?

The climate is ripe for creating new business opportunities that would not have been possible even six months ago. If you have a business, look at ways to do upgrades, remodel, retool, consider other applications for what you do and, above all, purge out anything that is not working. If it is not working for you now, it will not work better next year.

Especially if your business is transformational in nature, people will be looking for your services. I recommend doing what you can to see that your website and marketing tools are current and that your information is easy for anyone searching for what you do, to find.

NaBloPoMo ~Blogging Inspiration and Astrology

I just signed up for NaBloPoMo–National Bog Posting Month. The beauty of this is that unlike NaNoWriMo–National Novel Writing Month; each year tens of thousands of us attempt to write 50,000 words of a new novel between November 1st through the 30th (I signed up three years and succeeded twice)–NaBloPoMo starts whenever you do with the goal of posting to one’s blog every day for a month.

I can’t even begin to count the levels on which this appeals to me. As a lover of words and writing, any excuse to write is a good one. Secondly, there are so many things that I’m drawn to write about–all these amazing changes taking place in the world, reflected by the ever-changing cycles that create the language of the sky. This looks like a great inspiration for getting more of this in writing to share with clients, friends and readers, everywhere.

Mercury, The Messenger, is in Cancer with the Sun, opening us to ideas about taking better care of ourselves and those we love. The Moon just entered the sensual Goddess Venus’s sign, Taurus, setting the mood for taking your time, stopping to smell the wildflowers, enjoying nature and appreciating what there is to love in your world. Venus and Mars are both in Gemini at the moment, the sign of writing, communication, expression of all kinds, networking, short bursts of activity and me, actually. This is a great time for sharing what you are passionate about, what you are doing and what you are creating in your life, today. Go forth and communicate!

Who else is ready to take up this blogging challenge with me?

Every Day Is A Good Day For Something

Branches in the Sun~Resized
For some mysterious reason some days are easy and others, well, don’t you wish you’d just stayed in bed? I think many people read their horoscope in the newspaper hoping it will tell them this is a good day for them. The good news is, every day can be a good day for you.

Today, for example, Mercury has caught up with the Sun and the Moon is in Aries. This is an especially good day for self-care, self-reflection and speaking from the heart about our feelings. These are a few elements of the energetic atmosphere of today. Whether you use this information or disregard it is up to you.

The astrological weather, like life, is multi-faceted and constantly changing. One cycle overlays the next, compounding and complicating the effects of both. And there are never just two occurring. The planetary cycles are archetypal reflections of our lives–filled with periods of growth and change, building and tearing down, and finally relinquishing something we realize belongs to our history not our future. Despite the complexities, humans are graced with the capacity for focusing on on one thing at a time. We can tune in or tune out at will.

In this ‘information age’ when the internet and media crank out ‘news’ every day, all the time, it is easy to become overwhelmed and lose track of what really matters. I say, keep it simple. Some things are naturally more important to us than others. Individuality means the important things are different for everyone.

Astrology offers a simple way of understanding where you can benefit most from focusing your overall energy and attention and where to focus today to work in harmony with the greater universal cycles of evolution and potential that are in play in your life now. The more you understand your strengths and gifts and even your challenges the easier it is to move away from the stuff that isn’t about you and just wastes your precious time.

Everything really is relative. If you have planned a family reunion picnic in the park and have been up til all hours cooking and preparing, waking in the morning to a thunder storm might feel like a nightmare. On the other hand, if you are someone who has a garden that is badly in need of water, that same storm is an answer to your prayers. Maybe you are planning the reunion AND have a dry garden. Sometimes it isn’t so much the ”storms’ that occur but the timing.

Every day is good for something. Remaining as fluid and flexible as possible helps us to roll with the times when things feel difficult. On those days, I find it helps to remind myself that tomorrow is another day. Doing what you can to simplify your life, releasing the things that are no longer working, is the easiest way I know to create more good days. When we are focused on the things that are most important to us, it is easier to make the best of our time and enjoy the relationships that matter most. The present is a gift. This holy moment will never be again. It is up to you what you do with it and with whom you will share it.

May you find your way that ‘just right’ place of balance within, that allows you to beautifully shine your personal brand of goodness and grace into the world.

Seven-Year Itch ~Cycles of Evolutionary Change

Sunset Slice
If you are one of the millions of people who are currently experiencing major life-changing events, keep in mind that it is not just marriages that succumb to the seven-year-itch. Actually, seven-year cycles are in effect in all areas of life. Science tells us that on average, most cells in the human body change within a seven year period. So, it isn’t surprising that the things we are doing and interested in will change, as well. Taking some time to reflect on what was happening in your life seven years ago can shed new light, allowing you to claim the wisdom gained and release the toxic residue so you are free to start fresh.

The planet, Uranus, (genius, innovation, invention and sudden change) ruler of Aquarius, spends seven years in each sign of the zodiac. This offers clues about why and how things evolve.

The ‘seven-year-itch’ kicks in around the beginning of year six. Often, an Aquarian-type person or event (unexpected, catalytic, bolt-from-the-blue kind of thing) creates such a shift in your perception of life that you just know things will never go back to the way they were. Unrest and dissatisfaction brew beneath the surface. The things you have been doing no longer work and after a while it seems nothing really works, anymore. It is time to either do things differently or do something different.

Astrology helps us to understand life’s natural cycles. There is a time to be still and a time to move, a time to be patient and a time to push through obstacles, a time to hang on and a time to let go, a time for giving your all and a time for giving it all up, there is a time for silent reflection and a time for celebration.

I opened the Light In Motion office and began offering classes, gatherings and a newsletter, in addition to readings, in 2002. Over the past couple of years Light In Motion has been completing its first seven-year cycle. The way I did business wasn’t working very well, anymore. And despite the fact that I talk to people about personal development and evolution every day, I was at a loss as to how to deal with the effects of the changes in my life. Once you change, your circumstances must also change to accommodate the growth that has occurred. The only thing I knew to do at that point was let go and let go and let go, again.

And then one day, it dawned on me that that I could revolutionize my business–take it to a new level and offer new types of service that feel energizing and joyful. The heart of the business remains my love of working with and inspiring others who, like me, know that there is more to life than most people realize and want to enjoy cultivating a life they love. Stay tuned for much more as Light In Motion begins its new evolutionary cycle.

The whole world is different than it was in 2002. What are you itching to release or perhaps revolutionize? There are fresh potentials everywhere, awaiting your notice. What will you include in your new seven-year cycle?

Cancer New Moon ~June 22, 2009

DSCF0712

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, in the Northern Hemisphere. The sun is high, the sky is blue and the energetic mood has shifted as the Sun moved from the busy-busy butterfly Gemini days to the considerably calmer, more laid back feel of Cancer time. Cancer is a lazy river of a sign, moving at its own pace, home to of all manner of creature and plant life, drifting through the land offering solace to the parched earth and overheated humans looking for respite. Cancer is the sign of nurturing, nourishment, security, serenity and feelings. Laughter and tears are commonplace in the life of one born under the sign of Cancer.

As the Moon joins the Sun to enter its New phase at the beginning Cancer, it is time to sow some new seeds for the things we would like to see develop over the weeks and months to come. This is the New Moon of humor and humanness. Let your hair down. Take a moment to reflect on where you’ve been that has brought you to this place and time. Set aside some time to be in nature, ideally, by a pond, river or lake and refresh your spirit with the life-giving energy of water.

Though my natal Sun is in Gemini, I have plenty of Cancer planets in my astrology chart and am surrounded by people who were born with the Sun in Cancer, both of my mother’s sisters, my man, one of my closest girlfriends, her husband, my other friend’s husband, even my beloved kitty, Winston, is a Cancer Sun sign. Each of them is completely different from the others; there is no such thing as a typical Cancer. When my  girlfriends and I realized that all of our men were born within a week of one another we had to laugh at yet another thing we have in common. Cancer is one of the least comfortable placements for a man’s Sun, and yet these were the men that we had all chosen as our mates. We were all drawn to their inner strength, kindness, their sensitivity, their quick wit and their ability to make us feel safe in their arms. There is much to be said for a man who is connected to his feelings. And because each of us have some Cancer in our own charts, we understand that sometimes you really can’t say why you feel so strongly about something or that although it makes no sense to your mind, you know something to be true.

Cancer is the sign of the family, the nurturing parent and of caring for others. Many born under this sign are healers and have a natural ability to understand the needs of others, whether emotional or physical. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which changes signs every two and a half days and covers the entire zodiac every month. This is one of the reasons our Cancerian friends can be what we may think of as moody–in fact, they are simply relating to all the different points of view and emotional states, month in and month out. If you or someone you love is a Cancer Sun sign, keep in mind that whatever it is that you are feeling or dealing with at the moment will look and feel very different in a day or two. Patience is one of the best tools in a Cancer native’s kit.

I feel emotions have gotten a bad rap in our society. We have been encouraged to be logical and sensible and by all means, rational. Joy is not rational. And yet, those moments of joy are what make life worth living. Even our sorrow is evidence of how deeply we can feel and how much something or someone has meant to us–how alive we really are. When you stop to consider it, a life without emotions would be like a world without water, dry and lifeless and devoid of any possibility of joy.

Open your heart to the potentials your emotions offer. Emotions can help keep you on track in your life. You were born with an Emotional Guidance System. If you learn to honor and work with how you are feeling in any given moment, it will serve you in moving in the direction of your dreams and make it painfully obvious when you are off track. Emotions are fundamental to consciously working with the Law of Attraction.

Despite what may be going on in the world, summer only comes once a year. Many of us wait all year for summer to arrive. I invite you to enjoy these early summer days and celebrate the wondrous blessings they have to offer.

Aries New Moon ~March 26, 2009

easter-sunday-2008-023The Aries New Moon is today. This is the new moon of the year for planting the seeds of that which you would like to see grow in your life this year by way of goal and intention setting. In other words, make a plan.

I used to have an aversion to making plans, for fear of limiting myself. What if it turned out that what I planned wasn’t really what I wanted, after all? Eventually, I realized that my strategy just left me feeling adrift. Once I started making some plans a kind of creative magic happened and all kinds of new information on the subject became available to me to which I previously had no access. Though a plan is no guarantee of success, it does open you to a world of new possibilities and potentials.

Despite all outward appearances, 2009 holds tremendous promise for all manner of new enterprise and creative endeavor. This New Moon has Venus, Goddess of Love and money, sensuality, self-esteem and values, relationships and the law close at hand. Though she has traveled back through Aries for this meeting, her influence is an important reminder not to move too quickly or forget to take care of ourselves in these rapidly-changing times. She encourages putting more of our energy into positively focused activities that feel uplifting rather than allowing our fears to dominate, controlling our decision-making and thus the tone and quality of our lives. Remember what matters to you. Keep in mind why you are doing what you do. And this year it is important that there be beauty–the definition of which is unique to each of us–woven into our endeavors and that we all choose to do more of the things we love. Turning away from the old systems and moving toward that which speaks to the heart of you is what is called for now.

Aries is the warrior, the pioneer, the individual that is not afraid to take a stand and stand out in the crowd or even lead the way to something different. The potential of this new moon unlocks the doors and throws them open to adventure, invention, beauty and grace.

Wishing you a beautiful, bountiful, blessed adventure that expands in ways that inspire and delight you on your journey into spring.

Sun in Aries ~Vernal Equinox 2009

apophysis-061205-1

Spring has arrived, at long last. Winter is behind us and Growing Season 2009 has begun.

The Sun has now joined the still retrograde Venus in Aries, so though there is still a lot of energy in Pisces and Aquarius, you may be feeling a bit more enthusiasm for life. The fog will clear even more as Mercury enters Aries on March 25th.

Aries is about shifting gears, starting over, getting going on something brand new. The Aries New Moon is on March 26th and is said to be the best day of the year for setting intentions for that which you would like to create in the weeks and months to come.

For many years, I held Treasure Mapping workshops on the day of the Aries New Moon. I encourage getting a few friends together for an afternoon of Treasure Mapping on March 26. All you will need are poster boards, scissors, a selection of magazines and some glue sticks. We always did a short meditation and visualization before beginning, to set the energy and really get into the creative space that guides one to produce a truly inspiring Treasure Map for the year.

This year, especially, with the North Node, Mars, Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune still in Aquarius, it is very helpful to pay attention to the inspired visions that feel intriguing. There is a wide-open realm of possibility and potential available to be tapped that simply was not there before. Dreams, visions and inspiration are the vehicles through which we move beyond the old ways and into the new. The world is ready for the inventors, those who are willing to ditch the old boxes and step into the fresh, clean unknown and create from there. How does the picture change when you color outside the lines? This Aries energy is inviting you to try it and see. Experiment. Aries asks us to entertain the possibilities, “What if we did this, instead?” Let your imagination run wild.

If you could birth something truly extraordinary in your life, what would it be? There may never be a better time for boldness. The world is looking for a better way to do so many things right now. What unique gifts do you bring to the party that might create a positive change? We are each born with at least a few extraordinary abilities or Sacred Gifts that benefit the world. There has never been a better time than now to start using them.

My friend, Monique MacDonald, teaches a course on Sacred Gifts. You can learn much more on her website Discover Your Sacred Gifts.

I wish you all a most delightful growing season. May the seeds you are planting today expand your life in a multitude of beautiful ways.

Drifting Through Pisces ~Dancing With Life

princeville-palms-in-the-morning

If you don’t know quite what to do with yourself at the moment, relax. Honestly. Things will become clear in time. The most effective approach one can take now is to dance with what life brings your way and see what it has to offer.

Mars is back in Pisces for the first time in about two years. Mars in Pisces is fueled by inspiration and imagination. This means that for the time being we are all experiencing our energy levels ebb and flow. Allowing works much better than insisting. And patience is definitely a virtue, at the moment. Mars, The Warrior, ruler of instinctive, direct, ‘take no prisoners’, Aries, is most out of its element in Pisces. Mars doesn’t know how to act in this foreign terrain that dowses his fire. He can feel like he is all washed up. His fighting spirit is lost in the vast nebulous pacifism of this oceanic territory.

My favorite guy has his natal Mars in Pisces. He has taught me most of what I know about the fine art of allowing, of letting things be, of accepting what is and moving on to the next thing that comes along. He rarely gets stuck resisting something he does not like. He is the master of waiting to see what will happen before making a move. Does he miss out on things by doing this? Maybe. On the other hand, by the time he is ready to take action on something, the energy is all lined up for him–he calls this looking for the opportunity to present itself. He has a real gift of vision and can see how the pieces could come together for an optimal result. In being able to bide his time until it makes sense to him to act, he has enjoyed a great deal of success.

With Mercury, Uranus and the Sun still in Pisces, too, the heavens are awash with watery (emotionally sensitive) energy. Imagination, illusion, inspiration and dreams rule the day. Go with the flow, have faith and remember, it is always a good idea to breathe it out and let it go, whatever it is. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, cauldron of glamor, illusion, trends, the arts, death, completion, releasing, relinquishing. Spiritual sign of the dreamer, the artist, the poet, the dancer…. open, receptive, flowing, encourages drifting along to see where life takes you, answers come in dreams and visions.

My first astrology teacher, Georgia Stathis, born with her Sun in Pisces, had this to say on the subject: “Pisces is the sign of two fish swimming in opposite directions. It may appear to you that you can see exactly where they are, but if you stick your hand in the water they are never where you thought they were. The water creates an illusion that makes it impossible to know exactly where those fish are. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, God of the Sea. If you are in the ocean and can relax, it will support you and carry you along. If you fight it, you will surely drown.”

I saw Rev. Michael Beckwith, recently, on Oprah. He said that true spirituality is never about gaining anything, it always about letting go of something. As we release more of who we are not we become a clearer expression of who we really are.

This is not the time to fight. This is the time to wait… and see. Or go to the beach and let yourself be… Or walk by the water and set yourself free… Or take a long nap and let yourself dream… Bask in the artwork of nature and breathe.

Venus Retrograde in Aries

echoingheart-2Speaking of the Goddess, Venus entered the forty-day retrograde phase of her cycle last weekend. Venus has been in Aries since early February, stirring  passion, possibility and the spirit of pioneering in the hearts and souls of men and women everywhere. Venus in Aries is a busy Goddess; bold, instinctive and impulsive in nature. She is inspires leadership, prompts acting directly from the heart, sparks spurts of self-promotion and fans the flames of a desire for something new and different.

Since Venus is the ruler of love, money and values, once she goes into retreat, it is natural to reconsider  these very things and see them in a new, and sometimes alarming, light. Planets are said to “go retrograde” when they get to be a certain distance from the Sun, the difference being unique to each planet. As Venus now travels back through Aries to meet up with the Sun, the principle of conscious awareness, we may find ourselves experiencing a change of heart about what we have been doing and taking a fresh look at our relationship with self , since Aries is the sign of the individual. The challenges in our relationships with others always reflect some unresolved matter within one’s own heart. Venus retrograde offers an opening to see our heart in a new and compassionate light. During Venus retrograde periods we have an opportunity to realize that some of the things we have done on impulse in the past look much different from where we stand today.

Some questions to ask might be:

  • What really matters to me now?   ~For many people the answer is different than it was just a short time ago.
  • What can I happily live without?   ~Honestly, this one is very liberating.
  • What changes can I make that will enrich  my life?   ~Even one little positive change opens you to new possibilities.
  • What happened to my passion? or Why am I not doing those things I know ignite my passion?   ~The answers to these questions might surprise you.

The Goddess of Love has much to show us right now about who we are and our intrinsic value to the world. As Goethe said, “Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” There is so much more to say on this topic but I will leave it at this for now.

Venus will resume forward motion on April 17th.

Virgo Full Moon of the Goddess ~March 10, 2009

october-morning-2007-014

Full moons are the time of the flowering of the seeds that have been planted so we can see their fruits in vibrant color. Virgo is the practical, grounded sign of the Goddess, the earth’s bounty, integration, tending to things–including the body–and simplicity.

The Virgo Full Moon Moon joins Saturn opposite the Sun and Uranus, the Awakener, in Pisces.Virgo’s ruler, Mercury has just entered Pisces, too, so intuition is more reliable than facts and figures, at the moment. How does it feel to you? What do you sense about what you are looking at? Does this direction feel more inviting than that one? Trust your gut and go with the flow.

With the bulk of the planets in the air and water signs of Aquarius and Pisces, respectively, this grounded Virgo energy offers substance to the mix that can help make our dreams and visions a reality. Virgo’s symbol is the Virgin–in essence, the Divine Feminine principle of creation, appreciation and love.

Virgo is the sign of integration, of sorting through the bits and pieces of our lives and releasing those that don’t fit, don’t work or no longer serve any useful purpose. Saturn in Virgo has been beating the drum of the necessity of letting go of that which is not right for us. As we let go we bring our lives current, into the present, where we can be effective in our actions and interactions, once again. Too much stuff, too many possibilities, too many responsibilities that we can’t possibly fulfill, attempting to go in too many directions at the same time all drain our precious natural resources of time and energy and the attention that gives our life direction.

The Full Moon joining Saturn in Virgo prompts us to get grounded in our own lives. In any moment we can choose to turn off the fear-mongering news, step away from watching the erratic stock market for a while and realize that we didn’t get where we are, overnight and it is going to take time before we see the effects of what is happening now. In the mean time, this is a wonderful opportunity to come back into your own center. Focus on the things you can do something about: tend to your body, organize and fabulize your home–even little improvements make a big difference, clear the clutter from your messy office, plant flowers or buy a colorful plant for your home.

What have you neglected that you know makes you feel better? What is one practical thing can you do right now that will change things for the better? Who or what have you taken for granted that will benefit from your thoughtful consideration and appreciation? Focusing on and tending to the things we love and appreciate creates an energetic expansion that bears fruit in a multitude of wonderful ways.

“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”  ~Rumi
