Scorpio – Living the Mystery

Moonlight beams down

Softening hard edges

And clean lines

Mystery rules the night

The sky

Alive

With its own brand of light

Offers solace

In which to release

The harsher realities of the day

Gazing out over the ocean

The full moon

A jewel among the stars

Invites reflection

Offers comfort

At a time when I feel so alone

Why am I here?

I ask

Why is this so hard?

What happened

To all those dreams

That once drew me forth?

Like art

On an enchanted canvas

Stars twinkle in reply

I see my questions

Are small matters

In the big scheme of things

The answers lie

In this moment

In witnessing the magnificence

In holding this holy moment

Communion with the sky

In not only eyes and mind

But Heart and Soul

Life is a mystery

Living the mystery

With open Heart and Mind

Offers magic

Unseen

When we think

We already know

By The Light Of The Silvery Moon

Moon Through BranchesI’ve always been in love with the sky. When I felt lost or alone as a child I looked long and hard into the night sky as if the answers to my prayers were there waiting for me to notice them.

As a young adult everything in my outer world changed and yet I felt alone. They sky has been a safe haven for me for as long as I can remember. Even today, as savvy and sophisticated as I like to think I am, I retreat to the sky with that same hope and prayer in my heart. The sky reminds me of something I’ve yet to put my fingers on.

As a practicing astrologer you’d think I’d have figured it all out by now. Instead, I engage in the mystery and magic of the stars twinkling overhead that always call to my heart. There is something sacred in the silence of the sky. Something my spirit has always understood.

See for yourself, next time you find yourself sleepless in the middle of the night. As you behold the sky’s vast and sparkling darkness, feel into the Grace, wonder and wisdom it holds for you. Sky gazing helps us shift out of the details and into the miracle of being alive, here and now, on planet earth.

*This was the very first posting (with a couple of updates) to this blog  which was launched on August 27, 2006.

**In honor of this cycle of Mercury’s Retrograde phase, I will be reposting some of the original writings from this blog. This is in part to help me consciously remember, review and re-collect some of earlier steps of this journey and share some of that inspiration with all of you.

Every Day Is A Good Day For Something

Branches in the Sun~Resized
For some mysterious reason some days are easy and others, well, don’t you wish you’d just stayed in bed? I think many people read their horoscope in the newspaper hoping it will tell them this is a good day for them. The good news is, every day can be a good day for you.

Today, for example, Mercury has caught up with the Sun and the Moon is in Aries. This is an especially good day for self-care, self-reflection and speaking from the heart about our feelings. These are a few elements of the energetic atmosphere of today. Whether you use this information or disregard it is up to you.

The astrological weather, like life, is multi-faceted and constantly changing. One cycle overlays the next, compounding and complicating the effects of both. And there are never just two occurring. The planetary cycles are archetypal reflections of our lives–filled with periods of growth and change, building and tearing down, and finally relinquishing something we realize belongs to our history not our future. Despite the complexities, humans are graced with the capacity for focusing on on one thing at a time. We can tune in or tune out at will.

In this ‘information age’ when the internet and media crank out ‘news’ every day, all the time, it is easy to become overwhelmed and lose track of what really matters. I say, keep it simple. Some things are naturally more important to us than others. Individuality means the important things are different for everyone.

Astrology offers a simple way of understanding where you can benefit most from focusing your overall energy and attention and where to focus today to work in harmony with the greater universal cycles of evolution and potential that are in play in your life now. The more you understand your strengths and gifts and even your challenges the easier it is to move away from the stuff that isn’t about you and just wastes your precious time.

Everything really is relative. If you have planned a family reunion picnic in the park and have been up til all hours cooking and preparing, waking in the morning to a thunder storm might feel like a nightmare. On the other hand, if you are someone who has a garden that is badly in need of water, that same storm is an answer to your prayers. Maybe you are planning the reunion AND have a dry garden. Sometimes it isn’t so much the ”storms’ that occur but the timing.

Every day is good for something. Remaining as fluid and flexible as possible helps us to roll with the times when things feel difficult. On those days, I find it helps to remind myself that tomorrow is another day. Doing what you can to simplify your life, releasing the things that are no longer working, is the easiest way I know to create more good days. When we are focused on the things that are most important to us, it is easier to make the best of our time and enjoy the relationships that matter most. The present is a gift. This holy moment will never be again. It is up to you what you do with it and with whom you will share it.

May you find your way that ‘just right’ place of balance within, that allows you to beautifully shine your personal brand of goodness and grace into the world.

Mercury's Gone Retrograde and the Moon is on the Wane

I took this picture as we were taking off from Salt Lake City, last weekend. In order to get the shot of the mountains and the amazing clouds, I was forced to include the wing of the plane in the picture. And now that I look at it, I kind of like it.

I was in Salt Lake City for the 4th Annual MonaVie International Convention. The convention was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. Dallin Larsen, cofounder and CEO is a true and inspiring leader with a vision that has captured the hearts and minds of people from many different walks of life. The plane was full of happy, if exhausted, MonaVie Distributors, many of whom are my good friends. We’d all shared an amazing few days and were on our way back home to the Bay Area.

A few days later, on September 24th, Mercury went retrograde in the sign of Libra. I found myself making a series of silly mistakes, like losing my cell phone in the house (I’d absentmindedly put it in a drawer when I was putting some papers away), realizing at the last moment that I’d forgotten a lunch date with a friend, and arriving at another friend’s house to work on a project having completely forgotten to bring the supplies…

While Mercury is retrograde, often things are not as we would like them to be. Most of us prefer a little more predictability, and that things go smoothly so we can get them done and move on to the next thing. When The Trickster is moving backward (from Earth’s perspective) life can seem to be a bit like driving the car looking only in the rear view mirror. It is easy to crash into things that are right in front of us; miss our exit, so we arrive late; try so hard to keep up our normal pace that we end up working against ourselves until we get that it is time to slow down or maybe even stop for a little time out.

With Mercury in retrograde motion for the next three weeks we can make the most of this time by cleaning up loose ends and either completing or deleting projects that have languished, unfinished, for far too long. This is the time to reconsider our priorities, reconnect with old friends, take a moment to review what is and isn’t working and update our priorities.

With the moon waning until it is new in Libra on September 29th, we are doubly primed for letting go of anything that isn’t working for us or isn’t enhancing our experience in some way. This is a great weekend for clearing clutter, organizing your desk or office, finally framing those pictures that you know would look great on your wall and replacing your summer clothes with the heavier things you’ll be wearing this fall.

So, Mercury’s gone retrograde and the moon is on the wane… sounds like the title of a country music song, doesn’t it? I still don’t know whether those clouds were moving in or out. Nothing changes faster than the weather. It serves as a wonderful reminder that if we allow ourselves to be in the moment we, too, can move through or beyond any storm. I love that I was able to capture that rich moment in time in a way that allows me to revisit it and be blessed, again, by all that it represents.

*Mercury goes direct, again, on October 15th.

Aries New Moon~April 5, 2008

Spring has arrived in the northern hemisphere with the promise of new life as this year’s growing season gets under way. The energy of change is particularly palpable and pervasive these early spring days. Dr. John Lilly, who worked extensively with dolphins and interspecies communication, and broke new scientific ground in countless areas said, “Our only security is our ability to change.” The world is changing before our very eyes these days. Change for the sake of change, however is an invitation to more of the same.

As we choose to awaken to more of who we are and expand our self-awareness, we naturally contribute to the awareness available to the whole and change follows in forms that are expansive and life-affirming. “Know thyself,” could be the Aries motto. Aries knows through the experience of living–of acting on that which calls. Through experience we truly know in a way that isn’t possible through observation, study or analysis.

In times like these great opportunities abound, with potentials and possibilities never before imagined. Our task is to recognize and embrace those that spark our individual inspiration to act and that speak clearly to our own heart. If it moves you from within, you are on track and good to go.

The Aries New Moon occurs at 8:55 PM PDT tonight, April 5, 2008. This is the first new moon of the of the natural new year which begins with spring, at the Vernal Equinox. The Aries New Moon marks the official start of the growing season, when Sun (consciousness) and Moon (unconscious and emotions) unite for the first time in the natural annual cycle. This is said to be the most potent day of the year for planting the seeds of intention for what you would like to spark into being as this astrological year unfolds.

Aries is the sign of the initiator, of passion, of breaking ties with what is and striking out on one’s own or leading others to a place they’ve never been before. This is virgin territory; there are no rules; the map is created as each new discovery is made.

The Aries color is blood red, representing the birthing of Self and something new. Their number is, of course, one, being the first sign of the zodiac. Aries reminds us that ndividuality, instinct and inspiration are key to aligned action. In essence, change is what Aries is all about.

At the Aries New Moon we are invited to birth something new and exciting. Out with the old, in with something that gets our energy moving and expands the edges of our current experience. Aries delivers the impetus to strike out on our own and pioneer new ideas into action with courage and enthusiasm that we may not realize we have until we’ve taken those first steps. In following our instincts to do those things that call to us we come into alignment with the energy and circumstances necessary to step into something new or extraordinary. The reward for stepping up and out is a renewed sense of strength and the experience of having stretched to become more than we previously knew we could be. Whatever we do with our time and energy over the next couple of weeks will give shape and substance to our experience as the year progresses and we see the fruits of the seeds we plant today in the coming months.

We all have Aries energy in our astrology chart, and our life, calling us to take courageous action as a path to self-knowledge. A lack of self-awareness results in an ongoing sense of insecurity that undermines our ability to live a contented, effective, fulfilling and successful life. In order to grow wiser and mature we must first know and embrace our true nature. Only then can we know what we have to offer the world and how we can contribute whole-heartedly.

To have courage is to have heart. May the Aries spirit of childlike wonder lead you back to the place in your heart of knowing what you, from your instinctive nature, were born to do. Then, as Goethe said, “Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.” I wish you great and inspiring adventures on each step of your journey into springtime.

Pisces New Moon~March 7, 2008

Pisces is the mutable water (emotional/feeling/sensitive) sign and the last sign of the zodiac and the natural year–the last month of winter. Pisces is in charge of imagination, compassion, spirituality, belief, the ocean, the unconscious, the collective, creativity, dreams, sleep, intuition, music, acting, theater, dance, the feet and shoes… Though why the feet are included is still beyond me when the symbol for Pisces is two fishes (neither of which have feet or shoes) swimming in opposite directions.

As the Sun and Moon come together at this new moon Uranus,The Awakener, and ruler of the sign of Aquarius, is right there with them, coloring the energy of the birthing of this new cycle. Don’t be surprised if things change course and unpredictability becomes the norm for a while. We could also find our access to our intuition is more available and bolts from the blue dawn on us with great flashes of insight into things we’ve not previously been able to get a hold of.

Aquarius is still full of planets as it has been since the first of the year. Chiron, The Wounded Healer; Mercury, The Winged Messenger; Neptune, The Great Dissolver: Venus, The Goddess of love and money, beauty and relationships, values and self esteem; and the North Node–Dharma or Destiny point are all continuing their dance sparking new awarenesses, clearing away old concepts and beliefs, and awakening us all to what is possible when considered through the lens and on the ground of Aquarius, sign of humanity, revolution, invention, technology, evolution and genius.

These are unprecedented times. All kinds of new potentials are being birthed in these first three months of 2008 as the majority of the energy in the zodiac is gathered together in these two Universal Signs and the planets passing through them connect to communicate and begin a whole new cycle of the co-creation of their joined energies.

Today as the Moon (the unconscious, feeling level of our being) meets the Sun (consciousness) in the sign of Spirituality, the ethereal, wild imagination and sheer limitlessness, there is an opening for each of us to tap this energy and dream, drum or dance something spectacular into being. Pisces knows no bounds and Aquarius is the visionary rule-breaker who never met a box that could contain its high vibin’ energy.

The energetic frequency continues to be high, wild and free. Entertain your most inviting imaginings, sparkle ’em up and unleash them to find their perfect form.

I’d love to hear how you are experiencing these aqua-violet energetic waves and what you are creating in this juicy new energy.

Love and oceanic bliss to you all,
Jodi
