Rx For Living Well

DSCF8827
Time, energy, attention and money. These are the precious personal resources of our lives. Too often, I find mine have disappeared without me even noticing until they are gone.

I feel that the process of getting to know and accept oneself wholeheartedly is essential to understanding one’s values and value as an individual. We have all been exposed to the conditioning that says, “No one will ever love you if you are honest” and “It is selfish/wrong to think highly of yourself” and “Sensitivity is a weakness” and the unspoken but pervasive idea “Love is something that you have to earn”. Only by being honest with yourself is it possible to know what is true of you.

Here is what I have learned. The art of living well is based in having cultivated a loving relationship with oneself. This means learning to trust your heart and body and questioning the knee-jerk judgments of your mind and other people. It means coming out of auto-pilot-living and noticing the things that spark your energy and enthusiasm, lift your spirits, feel expansive and draw you forward. It means knowing what matters to you and investing your personal resources in ways that support your life and your values.

It all comes down to this: Roses don’t last forever. Smell them while they bloom. Life is precious. Spend it wisely. Love yourself. Love your life.

NoMoNaBloPoMo ~Live True

Las Trampas Hiking Trail
I had blogging on my mind yesterday, off and on all day. I had blogged nine straight days. I was proud of my efforts and knew that being almost a third of the way there, I could accomplish my NaBloPoMo goal of a blog post a day for thirty days running.

The thing is, though, I wasn’t feeling particularly taken with any of the ideas that came to mind. I considered posting something just for the sake of fulfilling my intention to do so. That didn’t feel very good to me, though. I blog to share ideas, images and information that feel inspiring. If my heart isn’t in it, it is just a mechanical act.

So, No More National Blog Post Month for me unless the spirit moves me that many days in a row. We’ll see. My days of doing something just because I said I would in a moment of inspiration are long gone. When I stretch beyond that with which I am aligned it never turns out as I had hoped it would, regardless of my good intentions.

Living true to who we are means allowing for the fresh insights and deeper realizations that emerge as we are making our way down a particular path. Things are seldom what we think they are as we begin them and sometimes everything we need to fulfill our reason for choosing that direction happens quickly. Other times the path continues to draw us forward and our horizons expand in wonderful ways as a result of that journey. Only in honoring that which is true for us in the moment do we stay in the flow of our own river of life. Loving yourself means trusting what you feel and honoring it with your actions. No one else needs to understand or approve. Only you know what is right for you.

My friend, Nicole, and I hike once or twice a week in the forest pictured above and the surrounding hills. We share a passion for being out in nature, for getting exercise in a natural and uplifting way; we are willing to push ourselves a little and aren’t afraid to slow down or stop if that’s what we need to do. Some of the trails are super steep. Others, like this one, are gentle and winding. Sometimes we follow the trail to the end. Other times we turn around and find a way that feels better.

Go boldly in the directions that call to you, live true and love you.

Rainbow Flower Power

August 31, 2006~17

I have been playing with creating fractal images for the past few years. There is something about the nature of fractals the captivates me. I love the repeated design, the vividness of the colors and the energy I feel looking at them. My sense is that they help to connect us with some mysterious primal and universal knowing within us. Something that speaks to the mulit-dimensional nature of the universe and our place in it.

This one reminds me of the Flower Power images of the 60s when I was growing up.

What do you feel as you gaze at this image? What is flowering in your experience today?

Driven to Distraction By the Law of Attraction?

I was introduced to Abraham, the original teacher of Law of Attraction, channeled by Esther Hicks, in 1996. I was going through a very challenging time and despite the professional help I was getting, the situation that I had been desperately attempting to resolve for several months, continued to rage on. I was at wit’s end when a friend, after patiently listening to me recount the latest in this increasingly dramatic situation said, “I have something I want you to hear.”

She turned on the stereo and played a tape of Esther channeling Abraham. Within moments I realized I was hearing the truth and that I had the power to change the situation. I started to make changes the next day and within a week the ‘problem’ was finally solved.

Law of Attraction is nothing new. It is simply the way life works. The problem is, so much of what goes on with us is not conscious. You can take your attention off of what you do not want to create but if some deeper, unconscious part of you is oriented for that kind of situation to be created, nothing you can do with your attention is going to make any difference, at all.

In my experience, when something keeps coming to my attention it is because there is something about it that is important for me to know. When I continue to push the thought from my mind because I was told it isn’t good to have negative thoughts, I just get into a losing, energy-draining, battle. I do not get the thing I am attempting to put my attention on because the conflicting thoughts/pattern/things that are surfacing are currently occupying that space.

For instance, say that I want a happy, satisfying relationship with a man, but the only relationships I’ve ever had have been of the unhealthy, co-dependent variety. If I simply push away the thoughts of those unhappy situations and don’t allow myself to come to some kind of awareness about my part in the relationships that didn’t give me the experience I hoped for, how can I expect to suddenly leap to the ideal? If I don’t know how I attracted the last one, which according to the LOA, I certainly did, how will I know how to attract something that is more to my liking this time? I am not saying you can’t attract the ideal but even if you do, it isn’t likely to feel ideal for long if you have a pile of unresolved emotional issues that are festering somewhere beneath the surface.

I heard Abraham, again, today saying not to think about anything you don’t want to create and I had to shake my head. We attract what we are, not what we think about. We attract according to what we are doing with our energy and emotions, not what our brain is focusing on. If thinking alone could change things the world and most of us would be different by now. Don’t you think?

I love Abraham. I do. But I feel there is much more to the story than ‘The Secret’ would lead one to believe. If you want things to change, begin by accepting your part in the creation of those things you no longer want. There was a time when they were right for you. As you accept what has been, you begin to understand what is really important to you, how much you have grown and how much you have learned. You allow yourself to come fully present in your life rather than projecting yourself into some future scenario that you are not yet prepared to live. If we create something we are not ready for we feel insecure and unbalanced because the gap between where you are now and where you think you want to be has not yet been bridged.

Take a breath. Accept yourself. Appreciate your personal journey. Love yourself for what you have gone through in order to learn what you now know. Take it a day at a time. Accept and acknowledge, at least to yourself, the challenges that brought you to this moment. In so doing, you become more clear, aware and prepared for something new, appropriate and life-enhancing to the person you are today.

When we stop distracting ourselves by trying to control our thinking or feelings we have the luxury of relaxing into all of the good that we have already attracted in our lives. And from that place we naturally attract more of that which works beautifully.

Dancing to the Land of Ahs

August 31, 2006~16 ~2
The Sun just finished a busy journey through watery Cancer that included lots of ups and downs, two Cancer New Moons (a rare occurrence) and a couple of eclipses that set off all manner of change. Hard to believe it all happened in just a month. Family, emotions, security, nurturing, care-giving, and business have all been high priorities on the minds of most. And now, the Sun has moved into Leo. Leo is the fiery sign of the heart, ruled by the Sun. It’s time to dry those tears, put those worries aside and celebrate the gifts of life and love.

I have felt a call to dance for decades now. I was never very good at the actual dancing part but have always loved music and in my mind, at least, I knew I could move. Ten years ago I took my first dance class; a salsa class at a community center. I learned a few steps and loved the music but other things took priority and after a few sessions I stopped taking classes.

Since then I have taken a hula, jazz and belly dance. For one reason or another none of those styles or classes felt right to me. I began thinking dance wasn’t really for me, after all. Then someone told me about Nia and how it had changed her life. She said it was more than a dance or exercise class, it had become a way of life for so many women who were looking to embody their Goddess nature and live more joyfully in their bodies.

After looking for a class in the area for two years, I finally attended my first Nia class in May. Katleen, our fabulous teacher, made it easy, even for me, to follow along and before I knew it I was dancing. I wasn’t good, but I was having a great time in a room full of women moving together, led by a teacher I could relate to who so beautifully led us in this dance. We embodied our spirits, felt our connection to the Goddess, danced heaven and earth into our experience and pulsed into the joy of being alive through graceful, powerful movement.

I have been to every class since. Each time it is getting a little easier. Nia has helped me to have a joyful physical experience of stretching beyond my comfort zone, learning to think in new ways, learning to be in ways I’d never before considered. And now I’m dancing to some really fabulous music, twice a week, every week, at 8:00 AM.

Being an astrologer has meant having to step out of my personal experience of life and view it through a lens that is impersonal and detached. So many of the ideas Kathleen introduces in class are things that I have thought and written about and spoken about with others. In class, though, we bring them into the dance so the body can know and express them. Dancing has, even in this short time, helped me to be more grounded in my writing and work and to feel more present, regardless of what I am doing.

Learning to do something physical that you enjoy that stretches you beyond your comfort zone keeps you young, in mind as well as body. It strengthens you so you can more gracefully and effectively face other challenges. Grace is dependent on strength. Flexibility and being light on our feet help you to move with grace through these uncertain times. My spirit has been urging me to dance for years. It wasn’t just dance, as it turns out, it was discovering the ‘just right’ place that I am coming to through Nia, that finally delivered me to the land of ahs.

Let yourself experiment with doing new things you love. When you find the ones that make your spirit sing, you are well on your way. What is that ‘just right’ place for you? As the Sun enters Leo, remember, joy is of the essence. Take the time to play, be creative, take the spotlight if it calls you, honor your passion and lead with your heart. Celebrate being you!

Religious Elders and the Solar Eclipse in Cancer

Jimmy Carter has left the Southern Baptist Church after sixty years because of sexism. You can read his statement here.

I never thought I’d see this day come. And yet, here we are in this time of so much monumental change that even this is possible. Religious elders are finally speaking out about mistreatment and abuse of women based in misinterpretations of religious teachings that has gone on for what seems like ages.

There is a solar eclipse–a super powered new moon that signals change in the areas of the chart and life, that it touches–tomorrow at the last degree of Cancer, sign of the mother, the home, the foundation in life, history, security, the nurturer, the care giver, the armed services. The 29th degree is kind of the last chance position. It’s now or never. The time is right to clean up the things that need to be addressed and set things right so we are free to move onto something new. The things in this area of life that have been devalued, taken for granted, misused and abused must eventually be set right. This eclipse throws open the doors and offers the potential for something new to take place.

Maybe this is the first step in getting our priorities in order. It is certainly encouraging to me.

Musing on the Goddess

DSCF8747 (2)
For the past few years, especially, I have been fascinated by the idea of the Goddess. Not some ancient archetype of long ago, but the Goddess that is part of our nature–the Sacred Feminine that lives and breathes within us all.

I have been talking and writing about Her for some time now. Some of my writing buddies were there when I first came face to face with Her. She is, it seems, a part of my psyche–woven through my history and ever-operating in the background in my present. My preoccupation with Her amazes even me. Despite the things that are happening on the surface of my life, I am aware of Her presence always right there, nearby, awaiting my notice.

I am certain I have spent lifetimes singing Her praises, dancing in Her honor and praying to Her for blessings and guidance. I am equally certain that for a very long time it was not safe to speak of Her to anyone.

Today is a new day. The Goddess of Now is alive and well. This is Her time. It is up to those of us who remember, to breath life back into our own Goddess nature. It is not about going back to some other time, it is about now–this holy moment. It is about allowing ourselves to remember the Sacred Feminine principles of Love and joy, beauty and grace, appreciation and kindness, nurturing and caring, creativity and resourcefulness, transformation and rebirth, and so much more.

Over these past few years I have been meeting my sisters. We recognize the Goddess in one another, sometimes before we have exchanged a word. It seems some of us are coded to respond to the very word Goddess. I know I am. Nothing gets my attention faster.

I have much more to say about the Goddess of Now. In the mean time, I would love to hear from any of you who feel a resonance with Her.

Love lies at the heart of each of us. Sacred Feminine and Masculine are part of our Divine nature. Love yourself. Celebrate your nature.

Love Yourself

I listened to a fascinating lecture on Human Design today by it’s founder and messenger, Ra Uru Hu. The major themes and lessons of Human Design is that each of us is unique. This is something I come back to over and over again in my work with clients, doing astrology readings. I show people how they are unique and help them to understand their own genius that only comes through when they embrace their individuality completely. “Love yourself.” Ra says it often. And it bears repeating.

How many of us were taught to love who we are? How many of us were raised by people who were secure enough in themselves and as parents to really encourage us to not only be who we are but to love our self?

Most of the people who come to see me for a session are dealing with some kind of conflict between who it is they think they should be or how they ought to behave and the part of them that just wants to break free of all of those constraints and LIVE, full out as who they are.

I’m not sure how it happened that people are so afraid of love but I see it all the time. Love is the essence of who we are. Fear has replaced love in the minds of so many as being more intelligent and even noble, somehow. Does this seem like a crazy notion to anyone else? Fear is simply the resistance to love. It is a choking off of the life force that creates all kinds of trouble and even disease, for us. Love is your nature. You really can’t not be love, but you do have the free will to make your life miserable by denying it.

Love yourself. It sounds so simple. For most of us, it takes some getting used to and practice. Is it really okay to embrace one’s quirkiness and failings and the crazy things that disturb and delight us? Is it really okay that we don’t care about some of the things that are so important to others? Are we really allowed to forget about the stuff someone else thought we should do and focus on the stuff we prefer?

The question is, if you don’t live your life, who will? If you don’t do what is in your heart to do, who will do it? We each have something of value to offer. All transformation begins from within. If it doesn’t happen within you first, the external changes will be fleeting or ineffective or both.

Love yourself. Start today. It is the most amazing life-changing thing you can do. Once you learn to love you there is a new ease that naturally happens in relationships with others, too.

Love yourself. You were born lovable. When you love yourself, you become Love-able. Loving you is probably the most important, enlightening, life-transforming thing you’ll ever do. The whole world looks different through the eyes of love.

Looking For Miracles

In January, I wrote a newsletter that included an article called 2009 ~The Year of Miracles, that I posted to one of my other blogs. You can find it here: The Year of Miracles

As the year has progressed, the miracles keep on coming. Some are subtle, some are positively life-altering. Now, seven months into the year, I wonder whether I would have taken notice of some of these things, had I not been looking for something extraordinary to happen.

Energy follows attention. That which we focus on expands. That which we acknowledge and accept at face-value can then show us aspects and potentials that we would never had noticed had we continued to disregard it because it did not come to us in the form we were expecting or in the time-frame we had in mind.

My year has been filled with miracles, many of which even bore the name Miracle or had Miracles attached to it in some way. My guy just happened to hear that tickets would be going on sale in just minutes for the Smokey Robinson concert. He managed to snag us fifth row, center seats. And though the Miracles did not play with Smokey, the show itself was a miracle. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and the man’s voice is still amazing.

Marianne Williamson wrote a wonderful book called The Age of Miracles. It is about not only coming to terms with midlife, but coming to realize the many blessings of experience and wisdom and cause for celebration that we, so often, fail to recognize. A new level of the miraculous became apparent after reading her book.

I was introduced to Cory Herter, Sacred G and CoryHerter.com, (originally called WISH FOR LOVE) in March of this year. Cory’s work is extraordinarily miraculous. So many people, including me, are having amazing experiences just days, weeks and months after starting to use Sacred G. Dreams become vivid, sleep improves, bodies rejuvenate, emotions stored in unprocessed memories are cleared to free up life force and many who have been on the technology for a few months are seeing their entire life shift to an unprecedented level of well-being. There are lots of free videos of Cory teaching webinars full of amazing and enlightening information about how the body works and how the LOVE Technology supports the body, as well a free jpg. file of the LOVE Technology that you can download and reprint to try for yourself just for registering for the mailing list. Please tell them you heard about Sacred G on Jodi’s blog.

There are countless other miracles I could recount here, but for now, I’ll leave it at this.

Miracles are everywhere when we look for them. Seek and ye shall find. What kind of miracles are you seeing, these days? I’d love to hear your stories.

Bye-Bye, Business As Usual

Pluto and the Capricorn Eclipse

(Originally posted in the July 2009 Light In Motion II Newsletter)

Change is an everyday part of life. Those who refuse to change eventually discover that the world is not the same no matter how they try to make it so.

Embracing change and choosing those changes you prefer gives you a say in how things will be, going forward.

Pluto, the evolutionary planet of transformation, investment, banking, covert deals and hidden agendas, is moving very slowly through Capricorn, (business, government, professionals and authority figures of all kinds). Capricorn natives generally prefer to own only the best and highest quality that money can buy and are often willing to go without until they can afford to have what they want. The world is transforming its relationship to all the things and people born under Capricorn’s rule, purging out the toxic residue of what has been “business as usual” and creating fresh potentials for regeneration and evolution.

On July 7th, there was a Lunar eclipse in Capricorn, which acts as a cosmic power-booster in a sign. Unexpected events are likely for those who are Capricorn, Cancer. Aries or Libra in the weeks and months to come. Shocking news headlines are likely to continue. Who needs movies when life is serving up drama like this?

The climate is ripe for creating new business opportunities that would not have been possible even six months ago. If you have a business, look at ways to do upgrades, remodel, retool, consider other applications for what you do and, above all, purge out anything that is not working. If it is not working for you now, it will not work better next year.

Especially if your business is transformational in nature, people will be looking for your services. I recommend doing what you can to see that your website and marketing tools are current and that your information is easy for anyone searching for what you do, to find.
